From a small-town kid who once saw pro wrestling as something distant and unreachable, to someone who fell in love with the sport through rented videotapes watched with family on weekends. Today, S4S introduces you to Pumi – Prachaphoom Boonyatud, a pioneer of Thai pro wrestling and the founder of ‘SETUP THAILAND PRO WRESTLING’, Thailand’s very first professional wrestling promotion.
From renting tapes to spend time with family, to developing a serious passion for pro wrestling.
Pumi: My love for wrestling started when I was young. Since we couldn’t afford a UBC subscription (which held the WWE broadcasting rights back then), we used to rent wrestling tapes and watch them together as a family during weekends. Wrestling was more than just entertainment. It was a special time we shared as a family. But I had to earn it. I had to study and finish my homework before my dad would take me out on his bike to rent a tape. That whole journey made it more meaningful. It wasn’t easy to watch wrestling, so it made me appreciate it more. That appreciation slowly grew into the inspiration to bring pro wrestling to Thailand one day.
S4S: SETUP เกิดขึ้นมาได้อย่างไร?
Pumi: ตอนนั้นเป็นช่วงที่ GATOH MOVE PRO WRESTLING THAI ปิดตัวลง ซึ่งเราช่วยทำมาตั้งแต่ปี 2012 เราเลยนำองค์ความรู้ต่าง ๆ ที่เราสะสมมาเริ่มต้นทำ SETUP THAILAND ในปี 2019 ครับ
S4S: ความหมายของ SETUP คืออะไร มีที่มาจากอะไร?
Pumi: ‘SETUP THAILAND PRO WRESTLING’ มาจาก คุณปักษา Co-Founder ของเรานี้แหละครับ ด้วยความที่ GATOH MOVE เป็นค่ายที่มีลูกผสมไทย-ญี่ปุ่น มีวัฒนธรรมแบบญี่ปุ่นเป็นหลัก อาจจะยังไม่ตอบโจทย์สำหรับแฟนชาวไทยทั้งหมด เราเลยนำสิ่งต่าง ๆ ที่ดีตอนทำกับ GATOH MOVE มาใช้กับ SETUP เพื่อตอบโจทย์คนไทยจริง ๆ คำว่า SETUP เสมือนการที่เราอยากวางรากฐานอะไรใหม่ขึ้นมาที่เป็นความเชื่อที่เป็นของเราอย่างแท้จริง
S4S: How did SETUP come to be?
Pumi: At the time, GATOH MOVE PRO WRESTLING THAI had just shut down. I’d been helping with it since 2012. So I decided to take everything I’d learned from that experience and use it to start SETUP THAILAND in 2019.
S4S: What does the name SETUP mean, and where did it come from?
Pumi: ‘SETUP THAILAND PRO WRESTLING’ came from Paksa, our co-founder. GATOH MOVE was a Thai-Japanese hybrid promotion, mostly influenced by Japanese wrestling culture. While it was great, it didn’t fully resonate with Thai fans. So we took the good things from our time at GATOH MOVE and adapted them into something that would work better for Thai audiences. The word “SETUP” reflects our intent to lay a brand-new foundation, one rooted in our own beliefs.
S4S: ปูมิคิดว่าความยูนีคของ SETUP คืออะไร?

Pumi: ถ้าเปรียบเทียบกับญี่ปุ่นที่มีค่ายมวยปล้ำเยอะมาก แต่ละค่ายมีเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัวเป็นของตัวเอง ทำให้สามารถเลือกดูได้หลากหลาย แต่ SETUP ด้วยความที่ตอนนั้นเป็นค่ายเดียวในไทย เราพยายามเจาะตลาดที่ยังไม่ได้ใหญ่ เราเลยสนุกที่ได้ทดลองอะไรใหม่ ๆ อยู่เสมอ ความยูนีคของเราคือถ้าคุณมาที่นี่ คุณจะได้เจอทุกอย่างที่ใกล้ตัวคุณ ทุกอย่างในสังคมไทย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นสถานการณ์ มุกตลก แครักเตอร์ มันคือความเป็นไทย ที่ทุกคนเข้าถึงได้แน่นอน

S4S: การเปลี่ยนจากการแข่งขันบนเบาะเป็นเวที รู้สึกยังไงถึงการเปลี่ยนแปลง?
Pumi: รู้สึกเหงาครับ เพราะตอนเราทำ GATOH MOVE ส่วนใหญ่การปล้ำเลยอยู่บนเบาะ มันเริ่มจากการที่เราไม่มีงบประมาณแหละ แต่เราได้ใกล้ชิดกับคนดู เสียงเชียร์ กำลังใจต่าง ๆ มันใกล้มาก แม้แต่การจับเชือกบนเวทีกลายเป็นการจับขาคนดูแทน ทำให้คนดูเองก็สามารถดูนักมวยปล้ำปล้ำกันแบบใกล้ชิด เกิดเป็นความผูกผัน เป็นรากฐานของ SETUP ที่ทำให้เราสามารถขยายเป็นเวทีได้ในทุกวันนี้
S4S: What do you think makes SETUP unique?
We believe SETUP’s uniqueness lies in not trying to be unique.
Pumi: In Japan, there are so many wrestling promotions, and each one has a clearly defined style. Fans get to pick from a wide range of options. But when we started SETUP, we were the only promotion in Thailand, and the market was still small. That gave us the freedom to play around and try new things. What makes SETUP unique is that we don’t try to be overly different. We embrace what’s already close to home. From storylines and jokes to characters and real-life situations, everything is based on Thai culture. It’s something Thai audiences can instantly connect with.
A limited budget sparked unexpected friendships between wrestlers and fans, all from matches fought on floor mats.
S4S: How did it feel transitioning from matches on floor mats to a full wrestling ring?
Pumi: It felt kind of lonely, to be honest. During our time with GATOH MOVE, most of the matches happened right on the mat. That wasn’t by choice. We simply didn’t have the budget for a ring. But what we got in return was intimacy. We were so close to the audience; their cheers, their support, you could feel it all. Sometimes, instead of ropes, we’d hold onto the audience’s legs! That closeness made it more personal, more emotional. It’s what helped shape SETUP and gave us the roots to eventually expand to ring matches today.

Pumi: ไม่เชิงว่าชอบมากกว่า เราชอบการปล้ำบนเบาะแหละ แต่ก็ชอบเวทีเหมือนกัน พอทำมวยปล้ำมาสักระยะ เราต้องแยกระหว่างความชอบส่วนตัวกับการเติบโตของธุรกิจ เราจะทำยังไงก็ได้ให้มันโตขึ้นในเชิงธุรกิจกว่านี้ การปล้ำบนเบาะสนุกจริง แต่อาจจะไม่เข้าถึงสำหรับทุกคน พอเป็นการปล้ำบนเวทีที่ทุกคนสามารถเข้าใจได้เหมือนที่เคยเห็นในทีวีมาก่อน การทำให้คนดูย่อยง่ายที่สุด โดยที่ไม่ต้องทำความเข้าใจอะไรมาก เราเลยเน้นไปที่ตรงนี้แทนครับ

S4S: การคัดเลือกนักมวยปล้ำที่จะเข้ามาอยู่ค่าย SETUP TH มีเกณฑ์อะไรบ้าง?
Pumi: ในช่วงแรกเราเริ่มจากการประกาศตามหาทั่วไป มีการให้เขาเข้ามาลองทดสอบก่อนว่าชอบไหม ตรงนี้สำคัญมาก ด้วยความที่มันดูเป็นกีฬารุนแรง หลายคนอาจพูดว่ามวยปล้ำเป็นการแสดง ต่อยกันไม่โดน มันก็จริงส่วนหนึ่ง แต่ก็ปฏิเสธไม่ได้ว่ามันอันตราย หลายคนที่เข้ามาทดสอบครั้งแรก อยากจะทำท่าที่เคยเห็นในทีวีอย่าง Chokeslam, Tombstone, Bodyslam แต่เราไม่ให้ทำในครั้งแรกเลย เพราะคุณจะต้องไปฝึกฝนร่างกายให้แข็งแรงก่อน พื้นฐานร่างกายและความอดทนจึงสำคัญครับ
S4S: So does that mean you prefer wrestling on mats over wrestling in the ring?
Pumi: Not exactly. I do enjoy mat wrestling, but I like ring wrestling too. Once you’ve been doing this for a while, you have to separate your personal preferences from what’s best for the business. The truth is, we need to grow, and to do that, we need to think beyond just what we enjoy. Mat wrestling is fun, no doubt. But it’s not the most accessible for everyone. Ring wrestling, on the other hand, is something people instantly recognize. It’s what they’ve seen on TV. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for people to understand and enjoy. That’s what we’ve focused on.
As the business grows, sometimes you have to let go of certain things in order to build something stronger and better.
S4S: What’s the selection process for new wrestlers joining SETUP TH?
Pumi: At first, we simply made public calls for tryouts. The most important part of that process was letting people come and see if they actually liked it. Wrestling might seem like an aggressive sport, and sure, people often say it’s just a performance and the punches don’t land. That’s partly true, but there’s no denying that it can still be dangerous. A lot of first-timers show up wanting to jump straight into big moves they’ve seen on TV, like Chokeslams, Tombstones, or Bodyslams. But we don’t allow any of that in the beginning. You need to focus on strengthening your body first. Physical basics and mental endurance come before anything else.

S4S: ไอเดียแครักเตอร์ของนักมวยปล้ำแต่ละคน สิ่งนี้มันมีที่มาอย่างไรครับ
Pumi: แครักเตอร์ (Character) เป็นสิ่งสำคัญมากสำหรับนักมวยปล้ำ โดยเราจะมี 2 แบบ คือทางค่ายเป็นคนคิดให้ ส่วนอีกทางคือนักมวยปล้ำอยากเป็นแครักเตอร์นั้นเอง สมมติคุณอยากคิดแครักเตอร์เอง คุณต้องมองภาพเป็นวงกลมให้ได้ วงกลมนี้หมายถึงการเข้าใจแครักเตอร์ของตัวเองมากแค่ไหน เหมือนนักแสดงที่ต้องเข้าใจในตัวละครนั้น ๆ อย่างถ่องแท้ คุณต้องตอบคำถามในแครักเตอร์ได้ทุกข้อ เรามองว่าแครักเตอร์จะต้องมีจุดขาย
Pumi: สิ่งสำคัญของแครักเตอร์อีกอย่างหนึ่ง เนื่องจากตอนนี้มวยปล้ำไทยยังไม่สามารถทำเป็นงานประจำได้แบบ 100% หลายคนยังมีข้อจำกัดในการสร้างร่างกายกำยำแบบภาพจำของนักมวยปล้ำทั่วไป แครักเตอร์ที่เราคิดจึงเป็นเหมือนการปกปิดจุดด้อยต่าง ๆ ยกตัวอย่างเช่น วินมอเตอร์ไซค์ หรือคุณครู ที่เราเลือกใช้สตอรี่ของแครักเตอร์เหล่านี้ในการสร้างความน่าสนใจแทนด้านร่างกาย
The most important element of a wrestling show is the wrestler’s character. It’s what pulls the audience in and makes the performance come alive.
S4S: Where do the ideas for each wrestler’s character come from?
Pumi: Character is absolutely essential for a wrestler. In SETUP, there are two ways we develop them, either the promotion assigns one, or the wrestler creates it themselves. If a wrestler wants to come up with their own character, we ask them to think of it like a circle, meaning they must fully understand who their character is, inside and out. Just like an actor must deeply know their role, a wrestler should be able to answer any question about their character. The character has to have a strong hook or defining trait that sets them apart.
Pumi: Another reason why character is so important is that wrestling in Thailand isn’t something you can do full-time just yet. Not everyone has the time or resources to get the kind of bulky physique most people associate with pro wrestlers. So we use characters to work around those limits. Take our wrestler personas, like a motorbike taxi rider or a school teacher, we use their stories to make them compelling, even if they don’t look like stereotypical wrestlers.
S4S: แล้วสิ่งที่ปูมิมองว่าอะไรเป็นสิ่งสำคัญอันดับหนึ่งในภาพรวมของ SETUP?
Pumi: เรามองว่า SETUP เป็นคอมมูนิตี้ที่รวบรวมคนที่อยากทำมวยปล้ำในไทยให้กลายเป็นอาชีพที่สามารถสร้างรายได้จริง ๆ ที่ผ่านมาเราอาจจะยังรู้สึกว่ามวยปล้ำมันเป็นงานอดิเรกมากกว่า อาจยังมองไม่เห็นภาพว่าต่อไปมันจะเป็นยังไง หรือจะต่อยอดกับสิ่งนี้ได้ยังไง แต่ในปัจจุบัน SETUP เราได้ร่วมงานกับค่ายใหญ่ ๆ มากขึ้น ทำให้ทุกคนมี Passion มากขึ้น โฟกัสไปที่การทำให้ตัวเองเป็นนักมวยปล้ำ เรามีความเป็นนักมวยปล้ำที่ไปทำงานออฟฟิศ มากกว่าการเป็นพนักงานออฟฟิศที่มาฝึกเป็นนักมวยปล้ำแล้ว เลยมองว่านี่แหละเป็นเสน่ห์ของ SETUP แสดงให้เห็นถึงทิศทางที่เราสามารถไปต่อได้จริง ๆ ครับ
S4S: ในการทำมวยปล้ำ การจะมีคนที่อยู่เบื้องหลังอย่าง นักมวยปล้ำ โปรโมเตอร์ คนเขียนบท ปูมิคิดว่าต้องใช้เวลาอีกสักกี่ปี สิ่งเหล่านี้ถึงจะสามารถกลายเป็นอาชีพที่สร้างรายได้ขึ้นมาได้จริง ๆ
Pumi: คิดว่าอาจจะใช้เวลาเป็น 10 ปีเลยนะกว่าจะเป็นอาชีพที่สร้างรายได้จริง ๆ แต่มันอาจใช้เวลาน้อยกว่านั้น ถ้าเกิดมีการซัปพอร์ตจากภาคส่วนอื่นหรือแม้แต่การพัฒนาของเราเอง ส่วนตัวอยากให้สิ่งนี้เกิดขึ้นเร็วที่สุด อาจจะเร็วขึ้นอย่างน้อย 2-3 ปีก็ยังดี เพราะเรากำลังทำงานที่เกี่ยวข้องกับความเจ็บปวดของคน ไม่สามารถพูดให้ทุกคนต้องรอผมเก่งขึ้น ทุกคนจะต้องยอมเจ็บตัวไปอีกหน่อย หรือวันนี้ไม่ได้เงินนะ เราเสียใจนะที่ยังทำได้ไม่ดีเท่าที่รับปากทุกคนไว้ แต่ทุกอย่างจะเกิดขึ้นได้ ไม่ใช่เพราะผม แต่เป็นเพราะทุกคนตั้งใจทำด้วยกัน เราเลยพยายามมอบโอกาสต่าง ๆ ที่เข้ามาให้กับนักมวยปล้ำของเราได้มากที่สุด เพราะเรารู้ว่าสิ่งที่เขาต้องการมากที่สุด คือ โอกาสและความสำเร็จ เราเลยพยายามโยนสิ่งที่เข้ามา แล้วคิดว่าดีให้กับพวกเขา
วันหนึ่งเราอาจได้เรียนรู้และพัฒนามากขึ้น ยังมีบริบทต่าง ๆ ที่ได้ทดลองด้วยตัวเอง อาจมีถูกบ้าง ผิดบ้าง พยายามกับทุกสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นให้ออกมาดีที่สุด และเชื่อว่าสิ่งเหล่านี้จะถูกต่อยอดให้กลายเป็นบริษัทในสักวันหนึ่ง
S4S: What would you say is the most important thing about SETUP as a whole?
Pumi: I see SETUP as a community, a place that brings together people who want to turn wrestling into a real profession in Thailand. In the past, wrestling here felt more like a hobby, and it was hard to imagine how it could grow into something bigger. But now, we’ve started working with larger promotions, and that’s fueled everyone’s passion and focus. The mindset has shifted. We’re no longer office workers moonlighting as wrestlers. We’re wrestlers who happen to have day jobs. And to me, that shift in attitude is the real charm of SETUP. It shows we’re headed somewhere real.
S4S: In pro wrestling, for roles like wrestlers, promoters, and scriptwriters, how many more years do you think it’ll take before these can become full-time, income-generating careers in Thailand?
Pumi: It might take up to 10 years for wrestling-related roles to truly become viable careers in Thailand. But it could happen sooner, maybe even within 2 or 3 years, if we get support from other sectors, or if we ourselves can accelerate our development. Personally, I want it to happen as fast as possible. We’re doing something that involves real pain, both physically and emotionally. I can’t just keep asking everyone to “wait until I get better” or “hang in there a little longer.” People are getting hurt. Sometimes there’s no pay. And it hurts me, too, that we’re still not where we promised we’d be. But I believe this can happen, not because of me alone, but because everyone involved is giving it their all. That’s why I try to pass along every opportunity that comes our way to our wrestlers. Because what they want more than anything is a shot, a chance to succeed. So I do my best to give them that.
One day, I believe we’ll learn and grow even more. Every trial, every context, right or wrong, helps us move forward. We do our best, and someday, all of it might grow into something bigger: a company of its own.
S4S: นอกจากจุดเริ่มต้นของ SETUP แล้ว มีจุดไหนที่ปูมิรู้สึกกังวลอีกไหม?
Pumi: สิ่งที่กังวลที่สุดอย่างหนึ่งในการทำ SETUP คือเราอยากให้ทุกคนมีความสุข แต่จริง ๆ มันเป็นไปไม่ได้ สิ่งนี้เป็นสิ่งที่เศร้าที่สุด เราอาจเป็นคนที่ได้ออกสื่อเยอะที่สุดในฐานะตัวแทนค่าย แต่เราพูดได้เต็มปากว่า ‘ผมอาจมาถึงจุดนี้ไม่ได้ ถ้าไม่มีทุกคน’ วงการมวยปล้ำไทยพยายามกันอย่างหนัก เรารู้สึกดีใจที่ได้รู้จักคนเหล่านี้ กีฬามวยปล้ำเป็นกีฬาที่ต้องมีคนแพ้และคนชนะ เป็นปัจจัยที่ตอนนี้ผมยังคอนโทรลได้ แต่วันหนึ่งเมื่อวงการนี้มันใหญ่ยิ่งขึ้น คนตัดสินอาจไม่ใช่ผมอีกต่อไป และเมื่อผมตัดสินใจอะไรไม่ได้แล้ว แล้วต้องเป็นคนไปบอกข่าวร้ายกับคนเหล่านั้น ทำให้เรารู้สึกเสียใจมาก ๆ
ตอนนี้เราไม่ได้แบกแค่ความฝันของตัวเองอีกต่อไป แต่แบกความฝันของใครสักคนที่เอาร่างกายมาฝากไว้กับเรา เราอยากจะทำความฝันนั้นให้เป็นจริง ทำยังไงก็ได้ให้ทุกคนมีความสุข ทำยังไงก็ได้ให้วงการมวยปล้ำไทยเติบโต มันอาจไม่สามารถเป็นแบบนี้ได้เสมอไป แต่เราจะพยายามทำให้ดีที่สุด
S4S: แล้วปูมิรับมือกับคำวิจารณ์ต่าง ๆ ที่มีเข้ามาทั้งดีและร้ายอย่างไร?
Pumi: เราเชื่อว่าการสื่อสารเป็นสิ่งที่สำคัญ เราบอกกับทุกคนว่า ‘การที่เรามานั่งอยู่ตรงนี้ มันต้องมีอะไรสักอย่างที่เราทำถูก พวกเราคงไม่ได้ทำอะไรที่ผิดหนักหนาจนทำให้เราล้มเหลว หรือต้องหายไปจากวงการ’
Pumi: มันไม่มีทางเลยที่จะทำให้ทุกคนมีความสุขเหมือนกันหมด บางคนอาจรู้สึกดีกับวิธีการของเรา บางคนอาจรู้สึกไม่ดีอยากให้เรามีการจัดการที่เด็ดขาดกว่านี้ ซึ่งสุดท้ายเรื่องแบบนี้มันก็จะย้อนกลับไปถึงเรื่องของการชื่มชมกับสิ่งเล็ก ๆ น้อย ๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นในวงการ อยากให้ทุกคนรู้สึกสนุก อยากให้ทุกคนรู้สึกภูมิใจในตัวเอง การใส่ความภูมิใจให้เขาเล็ก ๆ น้อย ๆ ทำให้เขาก้าวข้ามผ่านสิ่งต่าง ๆ ไปได้จริง ๆ
S4S: Besides the early days of SETUP, is there anything else you’ve felt worried about?
Pumi: One of my biggest worries with SETUP is that I want everyone to be happy, but the truth is that’s impossible. And that’s honestly the saddest part of all. I may be the one who appears in the media the most as the face of the promotion, but I can say this from the heart: “I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for everyone else.” Everyone in the Thai pro wrestling scene is giving their all. I feel genuinely grateful to know these people. Wrestling is a sport where someone wins and someone loses. And for now, I still have control over that. But as the industry grows, there may come a day when I’m no longer the one making those decisions. When that happens, and I have to be the one to deliver the bad news without having the final say, that’s what really breaks my heart.
I’m no longer just carrying my own dream. I’m carrying the dreams of people who’ve entrusted their bodies to me. I want to make those dreams come true; to make everyone happy, to help Thai pro wrestling grow. It won’t always be easy, but I’ll do everything I can.
S4S: How do you deal with both praise and criticism?
Pumi: I believe communication is key. I always tell everyone, “If I’m still sitting here doing this, then there must be something we’re doing right. We couldn’t have done everything completely wrong, or we wouldn’t still be standing today.”
Pumi: You can’t please everyone. Some people connect with our way of doing things, others want more discipline or a clearer structure. But I think what really matters is learning to value the small wins within the scene. I want people to enjoy themselves. I want them to feel proud of who they are and what they do. Even just a little bit of pride can carry someone through tough times. And that’s powerful.
S4S: พอต้องรับมือกับสิ่งเหล่านี้ทุกวัน สภาพร่างกายกับจิตใจของปูมิเป็นอย่างไรบ้าง?
Pumi: บอกตรง ๆ สภาพร่างกายกับจิตใจไม่ค่อยดีเท่าไหร่ครับ ผมมีปัญหาเกี่ยวกับสุขภาพจิตมาน่าจะเข้าปีที่ 10 ได้แล้วครับ ตอนนี้ก็ยังหามีหมอซึมเศร้าอยู่ครับประมาณ 2 ครั้งต่อเดือน แต่ต้องบอกก่อนเลยว่ามันต้องแยกกันนะ การทำงานหนักทำให้เกิดปัญหาสุขภาพจิตได้จริงครับ แต่ไม่ควรมีใครถูกตราหน้าว่าเป็นสาเหตุที่ทำให้เราเป็นแบบนี้ เรามองว่าบางครั้งมวยปล้ำทำให้เราเครียดจริง แต่หลายครั้งมันทำให้เรามีความสุขมากกว่า
S4S: Dealing with all this every day, how are you doing physically and mentally
Pumi: To be honest, I’m not doing so well physically or mentally. I’ve been dealing with mental health issues for almost 10 years now. I currently see a depression therapist twice a month. But I want to make it clear. These two things need to be separated. Yes, overworking can lead to mental health struggles, but no one should ever be blamed as the cause. I admit that wrestling can sometimes make me stressed, but more often than not, it brings me joy.

S4S: นอกจากความสนุกที่ SETUP มอบให้คนดูแล้ว ปูมิพยายามสร้างอะไรให้เกิดขึ้นในวงการมวยปล้ำไทยบ้างไหม?
Pumi: SETUP กำลังสร้างความเปลี่ยนแปลงอะไรบางอย่างในหมู่คนที่มีความฝัน เคยมีหลาย ๆ คนพูดกับเราว่า ‘สิ่งที่เรากำลังทำในบางมุมเหมือนเป็นการเติบโตที่ก้าวกระโดด แต่ในบางมุมเราก็ทำสิ่งที่มีแนวโน้มที่เหมือนจะล้มเหลวได้เหมือนกัน’ เหมือนถ้ามีทางเลือกระหว่างเสี่ยงกับไม่เสี่ยง ถ้าหากเสี่ยงแล้วมันดี เราเลือกที่จะเสี่ยงก่อนเสมอ
Pumi: เราพยายามทำงานบนความเสี่ยงควบคู่ไปกับการจัดการวิกฤตต่าง ๆ เสมอครับ ตอนที่เปิดตัวดันเป็นช่วง COVID-19 พอดี เราเสียใจเหมือนกันนะที่รับปากกับทุกคนอย่างดิบดี แต่ดันเปิดตัวได้ไม่ดีเท่าไหร่ มันน่าอายเหมือนกัน แต่จากวันนั้นตั้งแต่ EP.1 จนตอนนี้เรามาถึง EP.8 แล้ว คนดูตั้งแต่ 50-60 คน จนตอนนี้มีคนดูถึง 500 กว่าคนแล้ว
S4S: ปูมิอยากจะพา SETUP ไปยืนอยู่ที่จุดไหนของโลก?
Pumi: เราอยากให้ SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling เป็นค่ายมวยปล้ำชั้นนำของโลกครับ พูดได้อย่างเต็มปากว่าเรามีองค์ความรู้ที่พร้อม อาจจะขาดประสบการณ์อะไรบางอย่าง แต่ SETUP ได้ความร่วมมือกับองค์กรระดับโลกแล้ว ประสบการณ์จากการทำงานกับ WWE ทำให้เราพัฒนามากขึ้นและเราไม่เคยหยุดพัฒนาในทุกวันครับ ทำให้เราเชื่อว่าจะสามารถพา SETUP ไปในระดับโลกได้ในสักวันหนึ่งครับ
We didn’t just build a wrestling promotion. We built a community where wrestling lovers can come together. It’s always been a safe space for us.
S4S: Beyond the entertainment SETUP provides for audiences, is there something bigger you’re trying to build within the Thai pro wrestling scene?
Pumi: SETUP is creating change, especially for people with dreams. I’ve had people tell me, “In some ways, what you’re doing looks like a huge leap forward. But in other ways, it looks like something that could totally fail.” And they’re not wrong. It’s like being faced with two choices: play it safe or take the risk. For me, if there’s even a chance that the risk could lead to something great, I’ll always take the risk.
Pumi: We’ve had to balance risk with crisis management from the very beginning. Unfortunately, SETUP launched right at the start of the COVID-19 outbreak. I do feel bad that I made all these big promises to everyone, and then our debut wasn’t as strong as I’d hoped. It was kind of embarrassing. But from that day, starting with Episode 1, we’ve pushed forward, and now we’ve reached Episode 8. We’ve gone from 50 or 60 people in the audience to more than 500 today.
S4S: Where do you want to take SETUP on the global stage?
Pumi: My dream is for SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling to become a world-class wrestling promotion. I can honestly say we already have the know-how. Maybe we’re still missing certain experiences, but SETUP has now partnered with global organizations. Working with WWE has helped us develop immensely, and we keep learning and growing every single day. That’s what makes me believe we’ll reach the international stage someday.
S4S: หลังจากที่ได้ทำงานกับหลายองค์กร พาร์ทไหนในการทำงานที่ปูมิรู้สึกชอบที่สุด?
Pumi: หลังจากช่วง COVID-19 อันนี้สนุกที่สุด เป็นช่วงที่ชอบ เพราะเราได้ทำทุกอย่างที่อยากทำ ได้ไปเล่นในสถานที่ต่าง ๆ มากมาย ได้ทำอะไรแปลกใหม่ นอกกรอบ บ้าบอ อย่างเช่น ตอนที่เราเคยถูกห้ามจัดการแข่งขันบนดิน เราก็เลยไปจัดบนเรือซะเลย จนกระทั่งได้มาเจอ Circus Studio จึงเริ่มทำการปล้ำบนเวทีขี้น แม้ว่าจะมีคนดูแค่ 30 กว่าคนก็เอาครับ
S4S: สุดท้ายครับ อะไรเป็นสิ่งที่ทำให้ปูมิเชื่อมั่นในมวยปล้ำและ SETUP จนถึงทุกวันนี้?
Pumi: เพราะเราเชื่อเสมอว่า SETUP เป็นที่ที่คุ้มค่ามากพอแล้ว กับการแลกชีวิตในช่วงวัยรุ่นเพื่อทำสิ่ง ๆ นี้ ผมชอบเปรียบเทียบการทำงานมวยปล้ำว่าเป็นเหมือนการที่ผมมีสวนอยู่สวนหนึ่ง ผมได้เห็นนักมวยปล้ำตั้งแต่วันที่เขายังเป็นเมล็ดจนค่อย ๆ เติบโต ได้ไปขึ้นปล้ำในสนามใหญ่ ๆ ที่ญี่ปุ่น อเมริกา ได้เห็นวันที่เขาเปล่งประกาย ชูเข็มขัดแชมป์ ได้เห็นวันที่มันโรยรา ได้เห็นบางต้นตายจากไป เพราะว่าเราเห็นพวกเขาตั้งแต่วันแรก รู้สึกดีใจครับ มันไม่ใช่แค่ความฝันของเราเพียงคนเดียว เรารู้สึกว่ามีคนโยนความฝันมาฝากไว้ที่เรา และตอนนี้มันงอกเงยได้แล้ว มาถึงจุดที่หมั่นรดน้ำพรวนดินความฝันนั้นก็โตแล้วเลยรู้สึกว่า ‘ความภาคภูมิใจเหล่านี้ มันไม่มีอะไรมาเทียบได้เลย’ เพราะเราหัวเราะด้วยกัน ร้องไห้ด้วยกัน กอดกัน เราชอบคุยกับทุกคนถึงวันแรกที่ทำ เราเปลี่ยนความไม่เชื่อมั่น ให้กลายเป็นความสุขของทุกคนได้ สิ่งเหล่านี้มีคุณค่าที่หาอะไรมาเทียบไม่ได้ครับ

S4S: After working with so many organizations, which part of the job do you enjoy the most?
Pumi: After COVID, that’s when things got really fun. That period is my favorite, because we finally got to do everything we had always wanted, performing in all sorts of places, doing bizarre, out-there stuff. Once, when we were banned from holding matches on land, we just moved the show onto a boat! Then we discovered Circus Studio and started hosting events with an actual ring. Even if only 30 people showed up, we went ahead and made it happen.
S4S: Last question, what keeps your faith in pro wrestling and SETUP going to this day?
Pumi: Because I’ve always believed SETUP was worth trading my entire youth for. I like to compare pro wrestling work to having a garden. I’ve watched wrestlers from the moment they were just seeds, watched them grow, debut in big arenas in Japan and the U.S., watched them shine as they raised championship belts. I’ve seen them wither too, some even disappear completely. But I was there from the very beginning. And I feel proud, because this isn’t just my dream anymore. Other people have entrusted their dreams to me, and now those dreams have started to grow. I’ve watered them, tended to them, and now they’ve bloomed. ‘That kind of pride, there’s just nothing else like it.’ We’ve laughed together, cried together, and hugged each other. I love talking with everyone about those very first days. We’ve turned disbelief into real happiness. That has a value nothing else can match.
